After having an emotional breakthrough in a restorative yoga class at Red Pearl Yoga in Fort Lauderdale, Deb began to explore how yoga might serve as a coping mechanism for past traumas. This led to a more regular practice and her first Yoga Teacher Training with Kelly Brookbank from Colony Yoga at Red Pearl Yoga in 2008. Red Pearl Owner, Karen Gavrilov became her personal and professional mentor. She gave Deb her first teaching opportunity fresh out of training! Karen also introduced Deb to Natalie Morales and Loree Schrager -Owners of Dharma Studio in Coconut Grove which became her second yoga home.
In 2010 Karen hired Deb as Project Manager on the redesign and build
out of Red Pearl Yoga adding a boutique and additional studio space. They also collaborated to renovate the retail boutique for R&R resorts - Pura Vida Yoga Retreat center in the mountains of Aljuela, Costa Rica.
Since her first glimpse of the peace she might find through yoga, Deb has dedicated her time to exploring a yogic path by immersing herself with a variety of yoga styles and master teachers including; Edward Clark from Tripsichore Yoga Theatre, Ricky Tran, Doug Keller and Terri Cooper from Yoga Gansters. In 2011 Deborah was honored to produce a tour for Tripsichore Yoga Theatre and went on to complete a 160 hr Tripsichore Intensive in London over 4 weeks the follwoing summer.
In 2012 she relocated to manage a SaaS sales team at MINDBODY Online in East Hampton, NY as their Regional Sales Manager. It's there she began her studies with Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman in at Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor, NY. She was invited to join their 2012 300 hour Teacher Training featuring Master Teachers Richard Rosen, Richard Freeman and Lippy Orem. In 2015 she also completed Yoga Shanti's first 100hr Advanced Teacher Training led exclusively by Rodney and Colleen. Deb has been honored to assist as a mentor in in their training programs and public events such as Yoga Journal Conference and Solstice in Time Square. Rodney and Colleen have challenged her to find equanimity and containment in her practice and teaching.
Deb believes that is one intends to teach, they must continue to study. She has a knack for teaching in a room hosting all levels with a fun loving style and a focus on therapeutics, strength and finding YOUR practice. She looks at a task that seems impossible and deconstructs it to find some aspect that is accessible to practice, any amount. Deb returned to sunny Fort Lauderdale, FL in October 2015 and continues to be a diligent yoga student . She works full time in technology, theatrical production and fabrication for Bombshell Productions but makes time to attend and teach workshops when schedule permits.
