UZIT in Training
The mission of the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy program is to change the present healthcare paradigm, to treat the patient and not just the disease. Through our partnerships, we are transforming patient care in hospitals, healthcare education in nursing schools, self-care in the home and emergency relief in disasters. I will be attending the next UZIT training Fall 2015 at Yoga Shanti.

Yoga Gangsters is a Miami-based non-profit organization that empowers youth who are at-risk or in-crisis through the science and practice of yoga by addressing the symptoms of trauma and poverty such as limited education, addiction, violence, incarceration, teen pregnancy, HIV and more. We offer classes at many South Florida locations working within the juvenile justice system, schools, youth centers and other non-profit organizations. Yoga Gangsters also assists youth with career training and job placement by providing selected applicants with full scholarships to the Urban Guru Program, a 200-hour yoga teacher certification, so they may return to their communities as strong, inspirational leaders.

I started supporting and riding in The Smart Ride in 2008. Rosie's Bar and Grill was putting together a team of employees and friends to represent our fine establishment. I didn't think I could ride a bike more than 10-15 miles! But I learned a bit about equipment and training and just did it. I've done it twice now and I have yet to ride every single mile of the 165. That's not what it's about anyway. My efforts have contributed to Rosie's team raising over $150,000 for our local community in the past three years. This is Fort Lauderdale's local AIDS ride and is a 100% charity which means there isn't CEO with an expense account spending the money we've raised.
